GET THE LOOK – Rita Ora
She started the year off singing at the Oscars and has most recently joined the judging panel of The X Factor. Rita Ora is growing globally and nothing is going to stop her. She is driven and passionate about her industry so where does she find the time to look flawless as well. Danielle Dickson, GlamCandy tutor and freelance make up artist breakdown her most iconic look and creates for us a step by step guide for” GET THE LOOK: Rita Ora.
Step 1 – Prime the skin
To give a smooth and dewy base first apply Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Primer in Radiance. The primer will not only give the skin a beautiful healthy glow but should help your makeup to last all day.
Step 2 – Base
For a flawless yet natural finish apply NARS Sheer Glow foundation to the face blending in circular motions using a buffing brush. A makeup sponge can also be used for a similar finish. Simply build up the coverage by applying in thin layers, focusing on the areas that need it most. The foundation should not look heavy; it should still look like skin.
Step 3 – Correct and Conceal
Firstly correct under eye darkness using By Terry Touch Expert Advanced Concealer in a pink tone to correct rather than a concealer. This will help to brighten and neutralise any shadows under the eyes. Next, conceal with NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer on any areas of the face that need more coverage, for example, any blemishes or redness around the centre of the face. Lastly, apply a thin layer of the NARS concealer under the eyes to conceal and brighten further.
Step 4 – Powder
To set the makeup, apply a thin layer of MAC Prep and Prime Translucent Powder over the face and under the eyes. Ensure you do not apply too much as you will loose the dewy look of the face and it may cause a white cast to the face if flash photography is used.
Step 5 – Bronze
To achieve Rita Ora’s sun kissed glow apply Benefit Hoola Bronzer across the top of the forehead, temples, under the cheekbones and under the jawline. This gives a natural sun kissed look whilst also giving the face some shape and dimension.
Step 5 – Cheeks
To give a fresh look to the cheeks add MAC Fleur Power blush for a rosy glow. Apply the blush sparingly as it is very pigmented, dusting on lightly with a fluffy blush brush.
Step 6 – Prime the eyes
Use Benefit Stay Don’t Stray Primer over the eyelids, blending in with your finger. This tinted eye primer will help neutralise any discolouration or veins on the eyelids and help the eye shadow to stay put longer.
Step 6 – Eye shadow
To create an even base colour on the eyes first apply Bobbi Brown Matte Ivory eye shadow over the eyelid and right up to the brow bone, focusing the product on the inner corner of the eye to brighten. To define the eye, apply MAC Omega eye shadow in the crease and outer corner, and then blend the edges with a clean fluffy brush for a diffused look.
Step 7 – Eyeliner
To recreate Rita’s smoked out eyeliner look first apply Bobbi Browns Black Ink Gel Liner with an angled eyeliner brush along the top lash line and slightly wing out at the end. Next, apply Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Pencil in Black along the bottom lash line and onto the upper and lower water lines for extra drama. To finish, blend out the eyeliner on the bottom lash line using a small pencil brush, for a softer smokey look.
Step 8 – Eyelashes
For a sultry eye look apply Ardell Demi Wispies Eyelashes using Duo Lash Adhesive. Firstly measure the false lashes against your natural lashes, if the false lashes are wider than your lash line then you may need to trim a few hairs off using small cosmetic scissors. Next, apply the Duo Lash Adhesive along the vein of the lash and allow 60 seconds for the lash glue to go tacky, which will help the lashes stick better. Finally, place the false lashes as close as possible to your natural lash line and push down at either end. Once the glue has dried, apply a coat of Maxfactor false lash effect mascara in Waterproof to help the false lashes blend with your natural lashes, then apply a coat on the bottom lashes to finish.
Step 9 – Eyebrows
To achieve Rita Ora’s signature sculpted brows, first comb your brows upwards using a brow comb. To define the brow use Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade on the brows with an angled brow brush. Firstly, sculpt the shape of the brow, then brush the product through the brows to fill in any gaps. Ensure you do not use too much product, as a little goes a long way. To set the brows in place use MAC Clear Brow Set.
Step 10 – Lips
To achieve Rita Ora’s signature red lip, first apply MAC Cherry Lip Liner to define the lip line, then lightly fill in the lips in for a long lasting colour. Next apply MAC Russian Red Lipstick on top for an intense long lasting colour. You can either apply straight from the tube or apply with a small lip brush for a more precise application.
